you win some

Just found out today that the poem I was banging on about here has won first prize in a competition. Details anon, once it has been published (in November), but just to say, hot on the heels of the previous post's whinge, that I am feeling rather happy about it, as you'd expect.

A burning blue day in Brighton, walking along the sea front with a cone of triple chocolate ice cream, smelling the fish and chips. Et in arcadia ego - de temps en temps. Or to quote Jeanette Winterson: You play. You win. You play. You lose. You play.

The Signs are perilously close to being Auspicious.

Congratulations! Very good news indeed. Am getting excited about Nano, but sadly lacking in buddies...apart from you, maybe.

Oh good show old bean ....can think of noting nicer by way of celebration than a stroll along the prom with nice ice on a sunny blue day :O)

Oh well done Signs!! Keep on playing, is the main thing, eh?

thanks Serenwen, and I'll be in touch about the Nano!

Cusp, I must admit that I had the icecream before seeing the good news. So now I think I should get myself another calorific treat.

FB, yes it certainly is!

Signs.

I've said it before but it bears repeating...

Where there is ever poetry, there you are.
No publisher will in his life impede The Signs.

We’ll stand in the sidelines and we’ll coo and clap,
As after Carol Anne, you shall succeed, The Signs...

Well done although hardly surprising, you know. Congratulations regardless, and gnomial hugmwahs

Of course, of course - prophecy! Not to mention clairvoyance. I bet Carol Ann (it's without the e, Gnomey darling) is quaking in her shoes as we speak. Can I just say how absolutely gorgeous you are looking? And could you perhaps do something about the WVLs who are saying comoompa?

Come oompa with Ghazal - or not said...

Grium. Does that help?

Carol Ann, Schmarol Anne - who's to remember the spellings of the names of all those poetic laureate has-beens of yesteryear? Personally, I think she should just be pleased to be mentioned in the same sentence as you.

So there.

(Thank you, however, for the compliment. HIghly deserved, of course, as I am looking rather gorgeous.)

Grium sounds like a possible sibling of yours, so that's good. But the oompa loompa army drill, no, I couldn't possibly - in this incarnation or any other. Gawd!

Well done!
Fabulous!

And I love the JW quote. Never heard ot before. I think I will write it down and put it on my desk at work.

thanks Kahless - JW is wonderfully quotable, I find.

Fabulous news! Delighted that you're getting some recognition.
Also good to see a JW quote: I start teaching tomorrow, and am wondering if I can work a JW quote into every seminar...

Gael, hello! - well it depends on what you're teaching (what are you teaching?) but I bet you can do it.

A Uni first year core lit course. I've already got "Trust me I'm telling you stories" and "There's no such thing as writing only rewriting and rerewriting" lined up for the next couple of classes, which deal with narrative : )

Congratulations - I hope you enjoy the teaching. Don't go anywhere without a copy of Art Objects. Which reminds me - must re-read again.

Yes :)

Well done! Amazing that you had that intuition about the poem at the time.

I know, Digi, it's spooky - this also happened once before with a poem. I suppose I guessed (not meaning to sound too cynical) that it was, amongst other things, "competition" material.
